Legalities

The formalities.

The Notice of intended marriage form 13 (NOIM) is legally required to be filled out and lodged a minimum of a month and a day before your wedding day. In some circumstances this can be activated and lodged with the signature of one member of the intending Marriage; the other party must sign as soon as possible before the Wedding date.

The NOIM must be signed in the presence of either: Your Authorized Celebrant/A Justice of the Peace/Commissioner for Declarations/A Barrister or Solicitor/A legally qualified medical Practitioner or a member of the Australian Federal Police of a State or Territory.

(I am both an Authorized Celebrant and a Justice of the Peace Qualified in 2000)

The other legal requirements state that you must be over 18 years of age and not be currently married to any other person, or not closely related to one another!

I can send you the notice of intent to marry form or you can download one from: www.ag.gov.au/celebrants.
